Science communication workshop

The National Science Foundation is inviting UA faculty, staff and students, and members of the public to attend “Science: Becoming the Messenger,” a free, one-day workshop designed to improve their ability to inform the public about science.

The workshop will equip attendees with the same proven skills and techniques communications professionals use to influence people’s thinking and attitudes, and to win support for research. Led by three experienced science communicators, the interactive event will cover the communications spectrum, from crafting a message to delivering it using both traditional and new media.

The workshop will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 17 in the Wood Center Ballroom. A selected group of interested applicants will be invited for more advanced one-on-one training the following day, including activities like mock slide presentations, press conferences and media interviews.

There is no fee for the workshop, but advance registration is required. Register here or see more details about the event.

Alaska EPSCoR is also making a limited amount of travel funding available to attendees from outside the Fairbanks area. Fill out the application form online.
