Parking and transportation during upcoming construction season

mail_image_previewDuring the construction season, please allow extra time to get to your destination, and check the construction website for additional information. Visitors to the core area who drive should expect to park and ride from Taku lot or park and walk/ride from the Nenana lot. Several other lots will be affected during construction staging.

Most of the ADA spaces in the core remain unaffected or will be temporarily relocated.

Access to Brooks Building ADA will be unavailable during the four-to-six week period that the sewer line is underway. Transportation Services is exploring an alternate shuttle or cart to use during this project.

Pedestrian access from the Taku parking lot to the campus core up Taku hill will be closed. Please use alternate routes. Cooperative Extension/Forestry lot users will receive special instructions.

Through out the summer UAF campus shuttles will be running and provide on call service to anyone need ADA access to buildings. Call 474-RIDE (7433)

TheĀ Construction Parking Map (pdf) shows some of the work and affected parking lots throughout the summer.

“Pedestrian access from the Taku parking lot to the campus core up Taku hill will be closed. Please use alternate routes. Cooperative Extension/Forestry lot users will receive special instructions.”

This closure only applies during the four-to-six week sewer line replacement, correct? Once that project is finished in the later part of the summer, will pedestrians be able to walk up the Taku Drive sidewalk again?

Also, strictly speaking, pedestrian access won’t be “closed”. Pedestrians would be able to get to the campus core from Taku – it’d be a longer walk

Thanks Brad, I hope you’re right. Actually, one can always access Fine Arts/Library/Wood Center/Coop Ex/Forestry from Taku by taking the goat trail up the hill just as people do now. Closing ped access from Taku for this side of campus during the entire construction period or having people take a shuttle such a short distance especially in summer, is untidy thinking, possibly leading to a lack of confidence in planning. I hope those in charge will take a 2nd look and perhaps discover an alternate walk route, to construct, for this temporary use time.
